It may be small but it is mighty!
Five Forks is a short 20 minute drive from Central Oamaru, on a well maintained and easy to drive rural road, where the only traffic jams you will come across is the occasional flock of sheep or herd of cattle being run up the road.
We are far enough from town to be blissfully rural, but close enough that its not too much of a trip when you do want to go to town.
The community is wonderful, with some families who have been here for generations, and anyone new to the area has always been welcomed warmly.
We have our own hall which is used by the school, and also by other organisations.
The highlights on the Five Forks calendar tends to be the bi-annual ball, and we have also enjoyed the occasional indoor bowls evening, although it tends to be more about the whites you wear rather than the bowls you do.
Who knows what will be next!
Right next door you'll find the Five Forks Playgroup.
This is a well attended playgroup that has been running for many years, currently sessions are on a Friday morning during term time, from 9.30am-12pm.
A lot of children who have attended this playgroup then go on to attend Five Forks School.
A highlight for the children nearing school age is going over to the junior room at school and spending time in the class room with the students at the end of a playgroup morning.
It is a great starting place for lifelong friendships.
It has fantastic resources, be it toys, or arts and crafts, scooters and bikes etc you will never find it lacking. It is run by an enthusiastic and passionate bunch of Mums - taking care of each terms theme, activities, field trips, morning teas etc.
It is the best playgroup in North Otago!
